In this video i talk about the story behind my paintings. I talk about the sketches, combining sketches, bringing in the expression of the Season as well as the paint brushes i love to paint with. I also mention Simon Carter whose workshop i attended that inspired the paintings. No brushes were hurt in this recording :-) You'll have to watch till the end!!
In this video I talk about the last 2 paintings of the window series inspired by a tropical greenhouse in the Barbican, London. The 2 paintings were painted on top of some screen prints on canvas that were created from some previous sketches. Hear a bit more about each painting's story (30 x 30cms) and why it is important to 'break' a painting although not always easy to do!
and here are a few pics of the original screen prints meshes of the sketches that underlay some of the background. They were photo transferred onto canvas and combined with some direct printing using gauze and mesh. Can you see the original prints in the paintings :-)

We had a lovely day in June on my expressive painting course. The morning was spent out wandering the local fields sketching and listening to the skylarks and the afternoon we let loose with some expressive painting! The aim was to PLAY, experiment and loosen up... To ease us into it i took along a roll of wallpaper lining paper so we didn't get too precious about material and it was great to paint in some different shapes and sizes! Some great experimental work by attendees was done- take a look below... and here are a few from me- the big one is on my wall in my study, reminding me of our sunny June day!
